Life Principles
John K. Hubbard Elementary · Grades 1–3
Life Principles
At Hubbard, we grow great character one word at a time. Each month our school focuses on a Life Principle — a word we learn, practice, and celebrate together — and students who live it out are honored at our monthly assemblies.
Word of the Month
Each month of the school year highlights one Life Principle. Teachers weave the word into classroom lessons and conversations, and watch for students who put it into action.
| Month | Life Principle |
|---|---|
| August | Courage |
| September | Responsibility |
| October | Integrity |
| November | Encouragement |
| December | Generosity |
| January | Respect |
| February | Honesty |
| March | Splomdifvic |
| April | Determination |
| May | Citizenship |
Award recognition begins with September’s word — August’s focus on Courage helps us start the year strong.
The BEARS Way
Life Principles come to life through our BEARS expectations — five habits every Hubbard student practices every day.
- Be kind — we treat classmates, teachers, and guests with kindness in our words and actions.
- Engaged — we participate, listen, and give our best effort in everything we do.
- Accepting — we welcome everyone and appreciate what makes each of us different.
- Respectful — we show respect for people, property, and our school.
- Safe — we make safe choices in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and playground.
Assemblies & Awards
On the last day of each month, every grade gathers for a Life Principle Assembly to celebrate the word of the month and the students who lived it out. If your child is receiving an award, their teacher will contact you with an invitation to join us.
Life Principle Award
One winner per homeroomEach homeroom class recognizes one student who best showed the month’s Life Principle.
BEARS Award

Each assembly also celebrates:
- Golden Eagle Award — recognizing great behavior in the cafeteria.
- Amira Reading incentive awards — celebrating growth in our Amira Reading program.
- Attendance incentive awards — honoring students who are here, ready to learn.
