Manage Your Classroom with GoGuardian Teacher

GoGuardian Teacher lets you see what is on your students' Chromebook screens during class, keep them on the sites you choose, and unblock a website or video for your class on the spot — without waiting on a workorder.

Get Started

You already have GoGuardian Teacher — there is nothing to install and no separate password. Your classes come over automatically from Clever.

  1. Open the Clever portal

Go to the Noble Public Schools Clever portal and click Log in with Google. Use your district Google account.

  2. Click the GoGuardian tile

On your Clever dashboard, find the blue GoGuardian shield and click it. You are signed straight in — no second login.

The blue GoGuardian shield tile as it appears on the Clever dashboard.
  3. Accept your classes

The first time you sign in, go to Classrooms > Pending and accept the classes and periods you want to manage. They move to Active and are ready to use.

GoGuardian Teacher sidebar with Classrooms selected and the Pending tab highlighted.
  4. Start a session

Open an active class and click Start Class. Set the length to match your period. Student screens appear as tiles, and everything below — Scenes, commands, unblocking — works only while a session is running.

Use the classes Clever built for you

Do not create a class by hand or add individual students. Manually built classes commonly produce a "monitor-restricted" error and your students will not appear. If a roster looks wrong, archive it and accept the pending one instead — see Fix a Class Roster below.

What GoGuardian Teacher Does

Everything here happens during an active class session, on district-owned Chromebooks assigned to the students in that class.

Live Screens

See the room

Watch every student's screen as a tile, refreshing every three seconds. Expand one student to see it full size.

Snapshots

Keep a record

Save a still image of a student's screen when you need documentation of what was happening.

Tab Commands

Redirect quickly

Open a tab on every Chromebook at once, close a tab a student should not be on, or cap how many tabs stay open.

Lock Screens

Get attention

Lock the whole class or one student with a short message on screen, then unlock when you are ready to move on.

Scenes

Set boundaries

Limit a class to the sites you list, or block a short list of distractions. Save a Scene once and reuse it for the same lesson every year.

Off-Task Alerts

Stay ahead

Get flagged when a student's browsing drifts away from the subject you are teaching, so you can redirect before it spreads.

Teacher Chat

Quiet check-ins

Message a student privately during class, or take a question without the rest of the room hearing it.

Announcements

Say it once

Push a short message to every Chromebook in the session at the same time.

Session Reports

After class

Review where a class spent its time after a session ends, under Student Reports.

Students know when they are being monitored. A small blue school-house icon sits on the side of every managed Chromebook screen at all times, and students see a notice when they join a teacher's session. The icon can be dragged out of the way but not turned off.

The notice a student sees on a managed Chromebook, explaining that screen information can be visible to the school.

Fix a Class Roster or Add a Co-Teacher

Rosters sync from Clever, so a class that shows last year's students is almost always an old class that needs to be archived and re-accepted.

Wrong students in a class

  1. Archive the old class

Go to Classrooms > Active, click Settings on the class, then Archive Class. Repeat for every class with the wrong roster.

The class Settings menu open with Archive Class circled at the bottom of the list.
  2. Accept the current one

Go to Classrooms > Pending and accept the correct classes and periods for this year. Archiving does not delete anything — past session data stays under Student Reports.

Add a co-teacher or aide

Open the class, click Settings, then Add Co-Teachers and enter their district email. They will see the class in their own GoGuardian account.

The class Settings menu with Add Co-teachers selected.

If the person you are adding is not found, they may not have a GoGuardian teacher license yet — submit a workorder and Technology will enable them.

Unblock a Website or Video for Your Class

Teacher Override lets you clear a block yourself, during class, for the students in your session. You no longer have to submit a request and wait.

  1. Find the block on the student's tile

When a student hits a blocked site, their tile shows Blocked by Admin with the URL and an Unblock for Class button.

A student tile showing Blocked by Admin above a blue Unblock for class button.
  2. Choose the website or just the page

If the block is on a specific page, a menu offers both choices. Unblock website opens the whole domain; Unblock page opens only that one URL. Pick the narrower option when it will do.

The Unblock for class button expanded to show two choices, Unblock website and Unblock page.
  3. Confirm

A confirmation window shows exactly what will open. Click Unblock Website and it is available to every student in the session immediately.

Confirmation window reading Unblock website for class, listing the site to be unblocked, with Cancel and Unblock Website buttons.

Overrides end with the session. When your class session ends, the site goes back to blocked for those students. Nothing you unblock carries over to the next hour, to another teacher's class, or to a student's evening at home.

Blocked YouTube videos

If a policy blocks videos but allows override, the student's tile shows a notice such as "1 video blocked by Admin."

  1. Open the student's activity

Click the message on the tile, or expand the student's screen view to see their tabs.

  2. Actions > Unblock Videos

Open the Actions drop-down next to the video tab and choose Unblock Videos.

A student's activity panel with the Actions drop-down open and Unblock Videos highlighted.
  3. Confirm the override

On the confirmation page, click Unblock Video. Videos stay unblocked for the rest of the session.

When the button is grayed out

A dimmed Unblock for Class button means that student is on a filtering policy that does not allow teacher overrides. Hover over the button to see the reason. Because students in one class can sit in different groups, an override can work for most of the room and not for one or two. When you need the site open permanently, or for everyone, submit a workorder — choose Website as the device type and include the full URL, why you need it, and your building and room.

Full detail, including SSL certificate errors and the most common block scenarios, is in the Help Center article A Website Is Blocked — How to Get It Unblocked.

In the Classroom

A few habits that make GoGuardian feel like a teaching tool rather than a surveillance camera.

Do

  • Tell students at the start of the year what you can see and when. The monitoring is visible to them anyway, and naming it removes the mystery.
  • Start the session at the beginning of the period and end it when the bell rings, so the tool matches the class it belongs to.
  • Build a Scene for a lesson you teach every year and reuse it instead of rebuilding the list each time.
  • Test a website days before the lesson, so there is time for a permanent unblock if the override will not cover it.
  • Use Teacher Chat for a quiet redirect before you lock a screen in front of the room.

Don't

  • Don't build classes by hand — manually added students cause "monitor-restricted" errors.
  • Don't expect to see personal devices. They may appear in the list, but their screens cannot be viewed.
  • Don't plan on a session outside 7 AM to 8 PM or on a weekend — sessions will not start.
  • Don't unblock a whole domain when unblocking the single page will do.
  • Don't share screenshots of student screens outside the people who need them; treat them as student records.

Training and Guides

All of these are free to Noble staff. The GoGuardian training portal asks you to create a free account the first time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I unblock a site for just one student?Teacher Override

No. An override applies to every student in the class session. There is no single-student option.

Do my Scene rules still apply after I unblock something?Teacher Override

Yes. An override only bypasses the district filtering policy. Any Scene you have running in GoGuardian Teacher stays in effect, so a site you unblock can still be blocked by your own Scene.

Why is the Unblock for Class button grayed out?Teacher Override

That student is on a filtering policy that does not permit teacher overrides. Hover over the button and GoGuardian will tell you so. Submit a workorder if you need the site opened.

Why did the override work for most of my class but not everyone?Teacher Override

Students can sit in different groups with different filtering rules, and not every rule set allows overrides. If it keeps happening with the same students, send in a workorder with their names so Technology can look at their policy.

My class shows last year's students. How do I fix it?Classes

Archive the old class under Classrooms > Active > Settings > Archive Class, then accept the current one under Classrooms > Pending. Full steps are in Fix a Class Roster above.

A student is in my class but I can't see their screen.Classes

Check three things: the student is signed in to a district-owned Chromebook with their district Google account, the Chromebook is awake and online, and the class you started is the Clever-synced one rather than a class built by hand. Personal devices show in the list but cannot be viewed at all.

Can I run a session in the evening or on a weekend?Sessions

No. Sessions are limited to Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 8 PM.

Do students know I am watching?Students

Yes. A blue school-house icon stays on the screen of every managed Chromebook, and students see a notice when they join a session.

What is the daily email I get from GoGuardian?Reports

A daily summary of your classes' activity and session statistics. Everything in it is also available any time under Student Reports.

Is GoGuardian the same as the Chromebook web filter?Filtering

They are related but not the same. District filtering runs on every managed Chromebook all day, whether or not a class is in session. GoGuardian Teacher is what you use during class, and Teacher Override is the piece that lets you set the filter aside for your session.

Where to go when something is not working.
If this happensDo this
The GoGuardian tile is missing in Clever Sign out of Clever and back in with your district Google account. If it is still gone, submit a workorder — your teacher license may not be assigned.
No classes appear at all Check Classrooms > Pending first. If nothing is pending, your PowerSchool schedule may not have synced to Clever yet — submit a workorder with your class periods.
"Monitor-restricted" error The class was built by hand. Archive it and accept the Clever-synced class from Pending.
A site you need is blocked and cannot be overridden Submit a workorder, device type Website, with the full URL, the reason, and your building and room. Most requests are handled in one to two school days.
A co-teacher cannot be added Submit a workorder asking that they be enabled in GoGuardian, then add them under Settings > Add Co-Teachers.
Screens are frozen or blank in the session Refresh the GoGuardian tab. If tiles stay blank for the whole class, submit a workorder and note the time and class period.

Plan ahead where you can: check any website you intend to use several days before the lesson, so there is time for a permanent unblock if the classroom override will not reach it.
